Determination of the angles between the quasicrystal zone axes of the decagonal phase in Al–Mn alloys

Abstract: The angles between the zone axes of decagonal quasicrystals in two different Al–Mn alloys have been studied by means of precision tilt experiments in a transmission electron microscope. The results confirm that a tenfold symmetry axis is present in the reciprocal lattice. The angles between the principal axes in the decagonal phase do not coincide with those between the corresponding axes in the icosahedral phase. The presence of this distortion is independent of quenching rate and size of the decagonal quasic… Show more

“…These EDPs and the angles between them agree with those EDPs reported by earlier workers for the Al-Mn DQC, [8,[28][29][30] especially the pseudo-fivefold p5 EDP after tilting about 61 deg (Figure 3(f)) and the pseudothreefold p3 EDP after tilting 79 deg (Figure 3(g)) from the tenfold axis.…”

“…Quite interesting and new objects can be obtained by connecting the magnetic particles by elastic linkers (Furst et al 1998, Furst andGast 1999). At present there are several interesting ideas for the application of chains of magnetic particles as diagnostic tools for establishing the presence of specific antibodies and for the creation of media for the fractionation of DNA by electrophoresis etc (Mayer et al 1997, Doyle et al 2002.…”
