Determination of Sulfamethazine and Trimethoprim in Liquid Feed Premixes by HPLC and Diode Array Detection, with an Analysis of the Uncertainty of the Analytical Results

Abstract: Sulfamethazine (SMZ) and trimethoprim (TMP) are antibacterials used in veterinary practice. This paper describes a method for their determination in veterinary liquid feed premixes that is based on liquid chromatography with diode array detection. Gradient elution with methanol and ammonium acetate achieved excellent separation of the two analytes within 15 min without any interference from the matrix. Absorbance of the column effluent was monitored at 264 nm for SMZ and at 230 nm for TMP. Detailed analyses of… Show more

“…47,48 Sulfamethazine is an antimicrobial sulfonamide, which is mainly used to treat various infections of livestock. 49 Phenanthroline has a large π-bond and a rigid planar structure, which is often used in the design of metal complex drugs to enhance the activity of metal-based complexes. 38(a) In this study, using sulfamethazine, ophenanthroline, copper perchlorate hexahydrate, cobalt acetate tetrahydrate, and nickel chloride hexahydrate as raw materials, Cu(II)-based complex HA-Cu, Co(II)-based complex HA-Co, and Ni(II)-based complex HA-Ni were synthesized by in situ reaction.…”

“…It is known to inhibit the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid. Mostly this drug have been used for the treatment of various infections in livestock, such as gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections [10]. Since the amide is an important functional group present in a number of drugs, the synthesis of amide linkages has special significance in organic synthesis, and in pharmaceuticals industries [11].…”
