Determination of Selected Polychlorinated Dibenzo-p-dioxins/Furans in Marine Sediments by the Application of Gas-Chromatography-Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: Selected polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and dibenzofurans (PCDFs) were detected by gas-chromatography coupled to triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (GC-QqQ-MS/MS) in marine sediments collected in central Italy. Total PCDD/Fs concentrations ranged from 11.58 to 193.29 pg/g d.w., with PCDFs as the major contributors in most cases. The congener profiles were characterized by high OCDD (70.7%-91.4%). The PCDD/Fs values are within or close to the Environmental Canada sediment reference values (0.85 pg T… Show more

“…Indeed, the concentrations of OCDD, 1.2.3.4.6.7.8-HpCDF and OCDF are also notably higher in the blank sample compared to the Table 1 Concentrations of dioxins (PCDDs) and furans (PCDFs) (pg/g dw) in Pseudovernia furfuracea lichen samples that were either unexposed (blank) or exposed to air at sampling stations St1-St6, and relative exposed to control (E/C) ratios Bull Environ Contam Toxicol other congeners. Bioaccumulation over long periods of time in soils and sediments does, in fact, affect the more highly chlorinated compounds to a greater extent than the less highly chlorinated compounds (Augusto et al 2007;Guidotti et al 2013), and this trend most likely occurs in lichens as well. More chlorinated PCDDs/Fs present a higher resistance to biological and chemical degradation, and a higher lipophilicity that causes a greater biomagnification (Vallejo et al 2015).…”

“…All results were reported as g per 100 g of the cookies (g/100 g). Fat content was determined on a solvent extractor SER 148/3 (VELP Scientifica) based on the Randall technique (Guidotti et al, 2013). The water content in the cookies was evaluated by thermal drying, in accordance with BN-80/8133-03.…”

“…The matrices reported include fruits, water, vegetables, sediment and so on. [24][25][26][27] However, for animal tissue, this method has rarely been reported. [28][29][30] Multidimensional mass spectrometry will play a more important role in drug residue analysis in the future.…”
