Determination of Predictors Associated With HIV/AIDS Patients on ART Using Accelerated Failure Time Model for Interval Censored Survival Data

Abstract: Abstract:The main objective of this paper is to identify the independent predictors affecting the survival of HIV/AIDS infected patients on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART), an interval censored event time outcome. A total of 2052 HIV/AIDS patients, who were on ART at Ram ManoharLohia Hospital, New Delhi, India, during the period of April 2004 to December 2010, were included for analysis. Accelerated Failure Time Models (AFTM) viz., exponential, Weibull, lognormal and loglogistic for interval censored survival dat… Show more

“…There was a higher mortality rate in the first 3–6 months of therapy which was similar to findings in studies conducted in different countries, 1 , 26 , 27 and this might be due to immune reconstitution syndrome associated with the initiation of HAART. The patients who come to health centers may be after developing full-blown AIDS.…”

“…The BMI of patients with HIV is an important predictor of ART outcome,5–8 including the prediction of the CD4 cells change9 and death 10–12. A negative change in BMI of patients was also found to be an independent predictor of dropout from HIV care 13…”

“…(4) The body mass index of HIV patients is an important predictor of antiretroviral outcomes (5)(6)(7) including prediction of CD4 cell changes (8) and death. (9)(10)(11) Negative changes in a patient's BMI are also independent predictors of dropout from HIV care cases. (12) The BMI of HIV patients is influenced by gender, WHO stage (13) , duration of treatment, (14)(15) and CD4 cell count.…”
