Determination of nucleosides in naturalCordyceps sinensis and culturedCordyceps mycelia by capillary electrophoresis

Abstract: Cordyceps sinensis is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine, and some of the active components are nucleosides. The analysis of nucleosides in Cordyceps material has been performed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with gradient elution or by spectrometry. Here, we have explored the possibility of using capillary electrophoresis to determine the content of three major nucleosides (adenosine, guanosine and uridine) in Cordyceps. Capillary electrophoresis needs no gradients, and… Show more

“…), polysaccharides, ergosterol, mannitol, etc. [30][31][32][33] Chen et al (2008) found that adenosine stimulates adrenal steroidogenesis through the adenosine 2A and 2B receptors and further activates the intracellular Janus kinase 2-mitogen activated protein kinase kinase-extracellular regulated protein kinase signaling cascade. 34) Among these active components, to our knowledge only the nucleosides can stimulate steroidogenesis in Leydig cells (unpublished data).…”

“…As two important alkaloids, guanine and adenine have played important roles in genetic information storage and involve in processes such as energy transduction, metabolic cofactors, and cell signaling [4]. They have significant impact on coronary and cerebral circulation, control of blood flow, prevention of cardiac arrhythmias, inhibition of neurotransmitter release, and modulation of adenylate cyclase activity [5,6]. Their concentrations are found to be important parameters for diagnosis of cancers, AIDS, myocardial cellular energy status, disease progress, and therapy responses [7].…”

“…The content value of nucleosides and nucleobases is affected by different factors, such as culture medium, temperature, time and sample preparation method, which explain the difference of data in the same species of various origin and diverse culture conditions (Li et al 2001; Yu et al 2006; Zhao et al 2014). …”
