Determination of nitrogen in soil by the Kjeldahl method

Abstract: 1. The reliability of the Kjeldahl method for the determination of nitrogen in soils has been investigated using a range of soils containing from 0·03 to 2·7% nitrogen.2. The same result was obtained when soil was analysed by a variety of Kjeldahl procedures which included methods known to recover various forms of nitrogen not determined by Kjeldahl procedures commonly employed for soil analysis. From this and other evidence presented it is concluded that very little, if any, of the nitrogen in the soils exami… Show more

“…Uma subamostra do material foi moída em moinho tipo Willey para a realização da análise química, feita por meio de digestão sulfúrica (Tedesco et al, 1985), sendo determinados nitrogênio (N), pelo método de destilação de arraste a vapor (Bremner, 1960), fósforo (P), por colorimetria, e potássio (K), por fotometria de chama. Todos os resultados foram transformados para conteúdo de nutrientes.…”

“…The pH and electrical conductivity were measured using water extracts obtained at a 1:1 soil:water ratio after shaking for 60 min. The total nitrogen was determined by the Kjeldahl method (Bremner, 1960) using a Buchi 316 device to combust and extract the soil samples. Exchangeable Ca was measured by the Drouineau-Galet method using a spectrometer.…”

“…The variables were: particle size distribution using wet sieving and flotationsedimentation (Robinson method); organic C content was measured using a wet oxidation method (Anne, 1945); total N content was measured by the Kjeldahl method (Bremmer, 1960); pH (soil:water ratio = 1:25); cationic saturation and cationic exchange capacity were measured using 0.5 M NH 4 Cl (Rouiller et al, 1980); "available" phosphorus was extracted consecutively with 0.004 N H 2 SO 4 and 0.02N NaOH (Duchaufour and Bonneau, 1959).…”
