Determination of mycotoxin profiles characteristic ofAlternariastrains isolated from Malbec grapes

Abstract: Abstract. The world grape production has increased, reaching 751 million quintals (Mql) in 2013. Many Alternaria species have been studied for their ability to produce secondary metabolites in foods, some of which have toxic properties with tenuazonic acid (TA), alternariol (AOH), alternariol methyl ether (AME) being the most important ones. The aim was to determine the characteristic mycotoxin production profiles of Alternaria strains isolated from Malbec grapes in the Patagonian region of Argentina. Fifty Al… Show more

“…Fungal contamination of grapes could occur before or during harvest and processing. In addition, Alternaria alternata strains isolated from Malbec wine grape have demonstrated the in vitro ability to produce alternariol (AOH), alternariol monomethyl ether (AME) and tenuazonic acid (TA) in synthetic media (Prendes et al 2015;Trinidad et al 2015). Also, the natural occurrence of some of these mycotoxins in wine grapes, grape juices and wine has already been reported Broggi et al 2013;Pizzutti et al 2014;Fan et al 2016;Fontana et al 2016;L opez et al 2016).…”

“…The exposure to Alternaria toxins has been linked to a great variety of adverse effects to both human and animal health (Dall'Asta et al, 2014). There are not specific international regulations of Alternaria toxins in food (Trinidad et al, 2015). Without surface disinfection, a total of 388 strains belonging to 12 genera were identified during the years 2017 and 2018, while Alternaria colonised all the samples examined (Table 3).…”
