Determination of iron in uranium matrix using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique

Abstract: In this paper a novel method for determination of Fe in uranium matrix has been demonstrated using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) technique. Effects of various parameters such as variation of matrix concentration, detection limit, accuracy, precision, comparison with other established methods etc. were investigated in detail. Analysis of synthetic standards as well as real samples shows that for ten determinations relative standard deviation (RSD) is\2 %. The method can be used for determination … Show more

“…Therefore, by processing such major interference elements separately, a more accurate matrix effect correction effect will be obtained. At this time, the mathematical correction method can be used, which is characterized by quantifying the interaction between the elements in the matrix and expressing it in various mathematical models, so that various calculation methods can be used to complete the correction of the matrix effect, mainly the correction of the effect between the elements [3][4][5]13]. Matrix effect correction adopts multivariate statistical analysis of empirical coefficient method, and the established mathematical model is as follows:…”

“…Considering all these facts, as reviewer, I would suggest that it might be a better option to dilute the U samples and analyse them using a limited calibration range up to 20 mg mL À1 , especially to achieve better sensitivity and precision for this type of measurement. Biswas et al 219 demonstrated an EDXRF method for the determination of Fe in uranium. The effect of various parameters such as the variation of matrix concentration, detection limit, accuracy, precision, compared with other established methods was investigated.…”
