“…To date, many analytical protocols have been developed to determine/quantify drugs of abuse in DBSs by modern analytical techniques, including liquid chromatography tandem–mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) [ 16 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 ] mainly for quantification purposes; liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-QTOF-MS) [ 17 , 27 ] and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) [ 11 , 28 ] for drug screening. Nowadays, various methodologies have been developed for DBSs for both quantification and screening purposes, offering precise analyte level measurements and efficiency of detection in biological samples.…”

“…Owing to the technological advances over the last decade, LC–MS/MS instruments currently achieve the highest levels of sensitivity and specificity in targeted drug analysis. Extreme sensitivity is obtained by triple quadrupole detectors operating in the multiple reaction monitoring mode, while the newest TOF (time‐of‐flight) and Orbitrap analyzers additionally allow high‐resolution mass analysis and accurate determination of elemental composition, resulting in accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of substances present in blood even at extremely low concentrations (Antelo‐Domínguez et al, 2013; Joye et al, 2019; Kacargil et al, 2020; Keevil, 2011; Li & Tse, 2010; Sadler Simões et al, 2018; Stove et al, 2012). The present review provides an overview of the most recent studies that propose easy and highly sensitive procedures for the detection of drugs of abuse after DBS sampling.…”
