Determination of ginsenosides by Bacillus polymyxa conversion and evaluation on pharmacological activities of the conversion products

Abstract: a b s t r a c tBacillus polymyxa was used to transform ginseng for the first time. Furthermore, the pharmacological activities of the conversion products were evaluated. Twelve kinds of ginsenosides of conversion products were detected by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results showed that the contents of ginsenosides Rb3, Re, Rd, CK, protopanaxadiol were significantly increased. Moreover, the conversion products had anti-fatigue, immune enhancement, and antitumor activities by the certifica… Show more

“…It is hypothesised that Pp-7250 co-bacterial agent application to increase the abundance of Bacillus, which is responsible for the growth promotion, biological control and pesticides residue degradation effects of ginseng. Paenibacillus not only has good applications in biological control [36,78], but also has good effects on the promotion of ginseng growth and the conversion of ginsenosides and ve pesticides, uazinam, BHC, PBNB, chlorpyrifos and chlorpyrifos, and DDT [34,[94][95][96]]. In the present study, the effects of Paenibacillus on ginseng yield, relative defence e cacy, and the content of the nine ginsenosides and pesticides residue degradation were signi cantly positively correlated.…”

“…Bene cial microorganisms have important roles such as biological control, promote plant growth, effective composition accumulation and degrade pesticides residue [9][10][11][12]. The use of Bioinoculants for ecological cultivation of ginseng is of great relevance in providing high-quality and safe ginseng herbs [13,14].…”

“…In addition, the total levels of nine monomeric saponins in 1- to 4-year-old ginseng treated with Bacillus polymyxis spraying and root irrigation were 36.83%, 44.52%, 67.96%, and 79.44% higher than those in the control from the same year. At the same time, coculture of B. polymyxis and ginseng significantly increased the levels of 12 kinds of ginsenoside monomers, especially the levels of the rare ginsenosides CK and protopanaxadiol, which increased by 1.38- and 7.78-fold, respectively [ 80 , 81 ].…”

“…The approaches by way of biotransformation to generate rare ginsenosides are outlined in Table 2. 119–139 The extraction residues 119–121 or ginsenosides mixture 122 are used as the substrates for cultivating different bacteria or fungi to produce the rare ginsenosides. With ginsenoside Rb1 as the substrate, Rd and Rh2 could be produced under the action of Trichoderma longibrachiatum 123 or bacteria.…”
