Determination Of Elementary Students’ Learning Styles Reviewed From Gender Aspects

Abstract: Students use different styles or ways of receiving and managing information during learning. VARK learning style was developed based on the physiological aspect of students in the form of sensory modalities. This survey research was conducted at 30 elementary schools in Ambon City. The data of student learning was obtained by filling out the learning style questionnaire developed by Fleming. The results showed that 88.7% of students used a learning style (unimodal) and 11.3% of students combined more than one … Show more

“…The results of this study are that ESL students at SIKL tend to have different learning styles which can be classified as; unimodal is an acronym for one learning style mode, bimodal two learning style modes, trimodal three learning style modes, and quadrimodal which has four learning styles (Chen et al, 2022;Kurniawan et al, 2019;Leasa et al, 2018;Renuga & Vijayalakshmi, 2013). In research on ESL students at SIKL, they have a preference for unimodal and bimodal learning styles.…”

“…Previous research has successfully tested and shown that those differences in learning styles have an effect on self-regulated learning skills of chemistry and science teacher (Dincol-Ozgur 2018). The others found that most female students preferred the auditory learning style, while most male students preferred the kinaesthetic learning style (Ramezani et al, 2015); however, the students in grade school is more probably to optimise just one learning style mode in accessing information (Leasa et al, 2018). However, the study by Wehrwein et al (2007), which showed a tendency for students to choose multimodal learning styles, did not correlate the differences in these learning styles with their learning outcomes.…”

“…Kai (2015) described learning style as a combination of learner-specific cognitive, emotional, and physiological characteristics applied in one learning environment. Learning style is a process that consists of various methods used to form cognitive perceptions in processing information as a concept and principle (Leasa et al, 2018;Othman & Amiruddin, 2010). Kolb (1984), stated that learning styles are described as method that individuals prefer to receive and process the information personally.…”

“…This shows the need for effective action when learning. One of the things that can help learning activities to be effective is to adapt the learning process to the tendency of the learning style (Leasa et al, 2018;Leasa et al, 2020). There are several studies on learning Physics with documented literature that have poor student performance due to learning difficulties.…”
