Determination of Copper by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry after Preconcentration with Activated Carbon Impregnated with a New Schiff Base

Abstract: A simple and reliable method for the extraction and determination of trace amounts of copper(II) ions using activated carbon (AC) impregnated by a new Schiff base 5-[(4-heptyloxyphenyl)azo]-N-(4-propyloxyphenyl)-salicylaldimine (HPPS) and atomic absorption spectrometry is presented. Recovery efficiency and the influence of pH value, volume of sample solution, effect of different eluents, and interfering ions were evaluated. The limit of detection (3σ) was 2.62 ng•mL -1 and the relative standard deviation (n=10… Show more

“…The method developed was simple, reliable, high capacity, good stability and fast adsorption and desorption kinetics for determining Zn in water. Also, the proposed method was free of interference compared to conventional procedures to determine Zn [34][35][36][37][38] .The methode can be successfully applied to the separation and determination of Zn in binary mixtures.…”

“…The proposed SPE method possesses advantages such as easiness, and considerable selectivity in comparison with the previously reported procedures for isolation and determination of Cu 2+ contents 46,51,52 . In conclusion, the proposed SPE possesses the following advantages: the technique is rapid when compared with the previously reported procedures for the separation and determination of copper, the time taken for the separation and determination of copper in a 500 mL sample is at the most 30 min.…”

“…Also, the proposed method was free of interference compared to conventional procedures to determine Copper 46,51,52 . As can be seen from the references, it is evident that the preconcentration factor obtained with Multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) cartridge is comparable to or even better than most of the other chelating matrices.…”

“…Also, the proposed method was free of interference compared to conventional procedures to determine Copper. 46,51,52 As can be seen from the references, it is evident that the preconcentration factor obtained with Single walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) cartridge is comparable to or even better than most of the other chelating matrices. The other significant feature of the proposed method is the use of environmentally benign HNO 3 4 M for the elution of the complex.…”
