Determination of chlamydial load and immune parameters in asymptomatic, symptomatic and infertile women

Abstract: The regulation of immune response and chlamydial infectious load in the cervix of human females is largely unknown. Infectious load in terms of inclusion-forming units (IFUs) was determined by quantitative cultures in Chlamydia-positive women, in asymptomatic women, women with mucopurulent cervicitis (MPC) and women with fertility disorders (FD). The first of these studies observed higher levels of CRP in pregnant women with Trichomonas vaginalis infection than in those without infection, and the second observed higher levels in C trachomatis positive women with mucopurulent cervicitis (ie, symptomatic infection) or infertility than in asymptomatic, C trachomatis positive women . While these findings are difficult to compare directly to our results because we do not have information on symptoms, we believe our results are consistent with these findings based on the typical presentation of chlamydia and gonorrhea in men.…”
