Determination of Active Components in Rhubarb by Cyclodextrin-modified Capillary Zone Electrophoresis

Abstract: A cyclodextrin-modified capillary zone electrophoresis was developed for the determination of four bioactive components in Rhubarb. Effects of pH, β-CD concentration and organic modifier content on the migration and separation of the components were studied. The four components were separated in the running buffer of 50 mmol/L NaOH-H 3 BO 3 (pH 10.7) containing 10 mmol/L β-CD and 12.5% v/v ethanol. The analytical performance of the method was tested with respect to linearity response, precision and recovery. T… Show more

“…Major compounds of therapeutic importance in rhubarb are derivatives of anthraquinone, including emodin, rhein, aloe-emodin and physcion [5]. Among these, the most promising natural anthraquinone is emodin because of its chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic potential.…”

“…The methods commonly used for the separation and determination of all or some of the five major AQs in rhubarb are thin-layer chromatography (TLC) [17,18], high-speed counter current chromatography (HSCCC) [19,20], micellar electrokinetic chromatography (MEC) [21], capillary zone electrophoresis [22,23] and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) [24][25][26]. Among them, HPLC method is well established and robust, but it is time-consuming (25 min at least).…”
