Detergent and Water Recovery from Laundry Wastewater Using Tilted Panel Membrane Filtration System

Abstract: Increasing global concern on clean water scarcity and environmental sustainability drive invention in water reclamation technology. Laundry wastewater reclamation via membrane technology faces the challenge of membrane fouling. This paper assesses a tilting-the-filtration-panel filtration system for the treatment of real laundry wastewater filtration aimed for water and detergent reuse. Results showed that the panel tilting significantly improved fouling control and enhanced permeability due to enhanced contac… Show more

“…For instance, the RBC/wetland configuration provides a storm flow buffer and improves the discharge effluent quality [7]. In previous studies, the application of membrane technology in combination with RBCs as a post-treatment helped to enhance effluent quality and removal efficiency [21,22].…”

“…The major downside of the UF membrane is the fouling issues due to the foulants (water molecules and micro‐organism), which settles down on the surface of the membrane by continuing to form a cake layer of foulants and reduces the durability of the membrane.Disinfection of the membrane with an alkaline or acid/base solution will affect the lifespan of the membrane. Hence it is extremely necessary to optimize the antifouling properties and hydrophilic nature of the membrane [1, 14, 19, 20] …”

“…Hence it is extremely necessary to optimize the antifouling properties and hydrophilic nature of the membrane. [1,14,19,20] To get overcome the downside of the membranes, hydrophilic Nano-additives construct a novel material called "Nanocomposite". This is a combination of many more distinct organic and inorganic materials, which includes carbonate, silica, clay, activated carbon and metal oxides, which are blended with polymer membrane.…”
