Detection of pesticide residue distribution on fruit surfaces using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy imaging

Abstract: Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is an emerging technique for the detection of pesticide residues on food surfaces, permitting quantitative measurement of pesticide residues without pretreating the sample. However, previous studies have mainly involved the single Raman spectrum of samples, while have given little information on pesticide residue distribution. In this paper, gold nanoparticles were used as surface enhancers to obtain the Raman spectra of omethoate and chlorpyrifos, using the Raman shi… Show more

“…A possible explanation was that the C–Cl and P=S groups performed good affinity for AuNPs, resulting in the higher intensity of the Raman signal. The characteristic peaks at 529 and 610 cm −1 were assigned to the P=S and C–Cl stretching vibration, and the characteristic peak at 674 cm −1 was assigned to the benzene ring and C–Cl stretching vibration, which were in good agreement with previous studies [26].…”

“…However, despite the high sensitivity and field applicability of this electrochemical sensor, the sample preparation was complex. Therefore, to overcome this limitation, the colorimetric method [ 22 , 23 , 24 ] and SERS [ 22 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ] techniques were adopted. The SERS-based detection techniques did not require a separate probe to capture targets that were easily detected with high sensitivity because the unique characteristics of CPF could be immediately confirmed in the spectrum.…”

“…The SERS-based detection techniques did not require a separate probe to capture targets that were easily detected with high sensitivity because the unique characteristics of CPF could be immediately confirmed in the spectrum. Recent SERS-based CPF detection studies used various nanoparticles composed mostly of Ag, Au, or bimetallic compounds [ 22 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 ]. Qin Xu et al successfully detected 1 µM of CPF residues in water using gold nano-popcorn [ 31 ].…”
