Detection of microRNA-335-5p on an Interdigitated Electrode Surface for Determination of the Severity of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

Abstract: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) refers to the enlargement of the lower artery of the abdominal aorta, and identification of an early detection tool is urgently needed for diagnosis. In the current study, an interdigitated electrode (IDE) sensing surface was used to identify miRNA-335-5p, which reflects the formation of AAAs. The uniformity of the silica material was observed by 3D profilometry, and the chemically modified highly conductive surface improved the detection via the I-V mode. The targeted miRNA-335… Show more

“…Recently, Changwu et al reported miR‑26b‑5p regulated the transforming growth factor β (TGFβ)/Smad4 signaling pathway to modulate hypoxia‑induced phenotypic switching of VSMCs. On the other hand, harnessing the results of a prior study [ 53 ], Bei et al [ 54 ] designed a novel device that would determination of the severity of AAA by detecting miRNA-335-5p. However, little is known about the specific regulation network of these two miRNAs in the aneurysm.…”

“…miRNA can bind specifically with its target mRNA in order to inhibit or decrease the expression. Recently, miRNA is more popularized and developing rapidly; in particular, the circulating miRNAs were found as the reliable modern biomarker for disease identification [ 21 ]. miRNA-137, containing 23 nucleotides, is found as the noninvasive reliable biomarker for AD [ 22 ].…”

“…It may be difficult to achieve reproducibility and biocompatibility of immobilized biomolecules by the above immobilization methods. In particular, the attachment of smaller capture molecules such as RNA, DNA, aptamers, and peptides to sensing surfaces is complicated [ 7 , 8 ]. Various researchers have used different techniques for efficient immobilization.…”
