Detection of emerging antibiotic resistance in bacteria isolated from subclinical mastitis in cattle in West Bengal

Abstract: Aim:The aim of this work was to detect antibiotic resistance in Gram-negative bacteria isolated from subclinical mastitis in cattle in West Bengal.Materials and Methods:The milk samples were collected from the cattle suffering with subclinical mastitis in West Bengal. The milk samples were inoculated into the nutrient broth and incubated at 37°C. On the next day, the growth was transferred into nutrient agar and MacConkey agar. All the pure cultures obtained from nutrient agar slant were subjected to Gram-stai… Show more

“…Farm animals are considered as established reservoirs for ESBL type Enterobacteriaceae. In India, few investigators have studied the ESBL type E. coli associated with bovine mastitis (Ghatak et al, 2013 andDas et al, 2017). To the best of our knowledge, this is first report from India on detection of E. coli pathotypes, their phylogrouping and ESBL production in the strains from bovine mastitis.…”

“…Present study affirm that cattle are one of the predominant reservoirs of pathogenic E. coli. Isolation of E. coli from cases of bovine mastitis has been reported from India (Das et al, 2017), however, virulent genes and E. coli phylogenetic groups were not detected earlier except few In this regards you may please reply of the reviewer comments mail.…”

“…In India CTX-M-15, CTX-M-63, CTX-M, SHV-180, SHV and TEM in E-ESBL from cattle have already been described. Faecal origin and mastitis, being detected in E. coli and K. pneumoniae (Borah et al, 2014;Das et al, 2017;Koovapra et al, 2016). The presence of CTX-M-15 and SHV in E-ESBL in India has been reported in humans (Hawkey, 2008).…”
