Detecting Tomato Leaf Curl New Delhi Virus Causing Ridge Gourd Yellow Mosaic Disease, and Other Begomoviruses by Antibody-Based Methods

Abstract: The incidence and severity of begomovirus diseases have been increasing around the world recently, and the ridge gourd [Luffa acutangula (Roxb.) L.] is the latest example of a crop that has become highly susceptible to the outbreak of the tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV, genus Begomovirus) in India. Accurate diagnosis of causal agents is important in designing disease management strategies. In this study the coat protein (CP) gene from a ToLCNDV-Rg ridge gourd isolate was used to produce polyclonal a… Show more

“…Given Begomoviral CP vital importance, both in terms of their infectivity and antibody-based resistance [ 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 , 46 ], we felt a serious need for the analysis to evaluate its evolution. Thus, our primary objective was to identify and describe the patterns of mutations that indicate positive selection in the coat protein (CP) of both OW and NW viruses, as well as to assess how these patterns change over different geographical regions.…”

“…Due to its ease of use, sensitivity, accuracy, and affordability, serological techniques are widely used such as the different ELISA immnoassays and the Lateral Flow Assay (LFA) has been frequently used for standard virus detection. Naganur et al, 2023). Nucleic acid hybridization are also commonly used for the detection of ToLCNDV, the technique is economical, and allows the processing of a large number of samples, carrying out field surveys to determine the presence of ToLCNDV Hameed et al, 2017;.…”
