Desulfurization of Selected Hard and Brown Coal Samples from India and Indonesia withRalstonia SpandPseudoxanthomonas sp

Abstract: The present paper entails the investigations on the removal of total sulfur (S t) from the coal samples of four coal and lignite fields of India and Indonesia by Ralstonia sp and Pseudoxanthomonas sp. Minimum desulfurization (in relative%) was observed in Nagaland coals (India) which contain maximum quantity of S t (6.86%) among the samples of the studied area while higher removal (in relative%) was observed in coals containing relatively low quantity of S t. Nevertheless, a positive correlation exists between… Show more

“…Also, investigations conducted on a same Indian coal sample aimed at comparison of desulfurization capacity of two bacteria, Pseudoxanthomonas sp. and Ralstonia sp., showed a better performance of the previous one [17,43]. Results from other investigations of coal remediation using other bacterial species showed sulfur removal values of 27%, 50%, and 31-51% [42,44,45].…”

“…Sulphur removal from coal has become a subject of extensive research and it is being given more impetus during last one decade (Singh and Singh 2010;Singh et al 2012Singh et al , 2013Singh et al , 2018Kumar et al 2019).…”

“…They have found out that the removal ef ciency was more than 80% for Ni, Zn, Cd, Cu, and Cr, and 45% in the case of Pb. The authors have also been working on the desulphurisation of coal by using microorganisms Ralstonia sp and Pseudoxanthomonas sp (Singh et al, 2012b). One of their latest papers (Singh et al, 2017a) presents the results of the petrological considerations in relation to the demineralization of Rajmahal Gondwana coals by means of Pseudomonas mendocina B6-1.…”
