Resources provide enough energy to meet our needs to heat our houses, power our cities, and run our cars. Renewable resources also produce clean energy and greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to climate change. Nowadays, every one of us depends on using machine-based or other kinds of work to fulfil our day-to-day requirements, which include working with electricity. However, renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy-based electricity must be increased to meet their daily requirements. In this paper, we come across the concept of a solar energy-based household water pump system to mitigate the AC supply usage for this purpose. In this, we used a solar panel to extract the solar energy to charge the battery up to 12V DC supply, and also, a rectifier circuit was used to charge the battery in the absence of solar energy through a step-down center-tapped transformer. The battery was charging in hybrid mode. Utilizing a driver circuit, the battery’s output is connected to an inverter circuit to boost the AC supply up to 230V. As a result, this arrangement gives us an uninterrupted AC supply used to test AC load, such as a bulb operating on a 230V AC supply. This idea is verified with a proteus software tool to drive for an application of automated switching ON/OFF water pumping 1-Φ induction motor to an overhead tank was performed using a relay circuit and also tested with a prototype hardware kit by connecting a bulb as the load at the output side.

The availability of stable, reliable, and low-cost electricity is one of the key indices for measuring the socioeconomic growth of any nation globally. However, in a developing economy such as Nigeria, marred by insufficient electricity generation, load shedding, and frequent power outage are common occurrences hindering some basic domestic functions, including lighting and charging, among others, to be performed. Therefore, an alternative solution that can serve as a backup for the conventional electricity supply system becomes imperative. This work developed a 12-V hybrid-powered rechargeable lighting system with intruder detection and USB ports for mobile phone charging. The basic components used in the system development are Arduino Nano (ATMega328) microcontroller, GSM (SIM900D) module, Passive Infra-Red (PIR) sensors, light bulbs, mini 12 V lead-acid battery, and 12 V, 20 W solar panel. Using relevant design equations, circuit designs and data processing were implemented around the ATMega328 microcontroller. The developed system was tested, and the output voltages of the lighting and charging units and the functionality of the intruder detection unit were determined. The developed hybrid-powered rechargeable lighting system operated satisfactorily during testing. The lighting and charging units were functional, giving 12 and 5 V output voltages, respectively. The intruder detection unit was active, producing a buzzing sound and sending an SMS alert to the registered phone number on the detection of an intrusion. The developed system is useful for domestic and other similar applications.

In this study, the battery pack and ESP32 microcontroller-based battery management system (BMS) design for the electric bicycle have been carried out. The software updates were realized when the battery pack was in the box, thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi feature of the ESP32. The voltage values were read precisely, and a stable BMS was created with a 12-bit ADC-based ESP32 controller. The battery had temperature control from 7 different points. The temperature data was received from DS18B20 digital temperature sensors, and the charging current was cut off when the threshold value was exceeded. At the same time, the ACS712 5A current sensor was used to determine and prevent the excessive current draw. The charging current was defined as 2A. BMS cuts off the charging current to protect the battery pack when the charging current exceeds 3A. The resistor used for passive balancing in BMS was isolated from the ESP module with the KPS2801 optocoupler. The voltage of the battery pack was charged from 3.7 V to 3.85 V in the real-time test. The charging process continued for one hour, and the voltage changes of each cell were obtained in 10-minute periods. It was observed that all cells were charged in a balanced way at the end of the charging process. Thus, the charging process of the designed battery pack was carried out successfully through the designed BMS.
