Designing New Strategy for Enhancing Robusta Coffee Production: An Application of Interpretative Structural Modeling

Abstract: One of the causal factors affect coffee production declining in Indonesia is the decline in harvest area of coffee plants. The decline in the area of coffee farming is caused by the shift of farmers from coffee to other commodities, such as corn, vegetables and fruit. The research was conducted to determine new strategic steps in order to enhance robusta coffee production. To achieve the research objectives, Interpretative Structural Modeling (ISM) analysis and modeling techniques are carried out. This modelin… Show more

“…Jika capaian pembangunan dalam kondisi stabil, maka upaya yang diperlukan lebih lanjut adalah pengendalian dan pengembangan. Namun jika yang terjadi adalah sebaliknya, maka diperlukan perencanaan dan analisis strategi (Nuddin, et al, 2018). Hal ini membutuhkan adanya kebijakan strategis yang dapat menjamin adanya perencanaan program pengembangan yang mampu mmprediksi masa depan agribisnis hortikultura di Indonesia.…”

“…Existing literature on the coffee supply chain demonstrates that a lot of work has already been done on the first sector's mechanisms (Jezeer et al , 2019; Ho et al , 2018; Nzeyimana et al , 2020; Civera et al , 2019), also abundant of writings are available on the role of government agencies in the coffee supply chain (Nuddin et al , 2019; Gladkikh et al , 2020; Hajjar et al , 2019). But despite being an essential element of the coffee industry, there are very few studies that discuss about 3PL (Banker and Mitra, 2007; Ye and Wu, 2014).…”

“…Since the last 20 years, discussions about Indonesia's position and role in the International cocoa trade have attracted the interest of experts and scientists, not only those in the field of agribusiness and economics, but also able to attract the interest of scientists in the institutional field (Nuddin et al, 2019(Nuddin et al, , 2015. One of the phenomena that attracts cocoa scientists and observers is that in the time brackets of 2001 -2005, more than 90% of Indonesia's total cocoa production is supplied by subsistence farmers who are economically poor (Nuddin et al, 2007) Only ± 3% supplied by government plantations (PTPN), and ± 4% produced by private plantations.…”
