Abstract:Membraneless organelles within the living cell use phase separation of biomolecules coupled with enzymatic reactions to regulate cellular processes. The diverse functions of these biomolecular condensates motivate the pursuit of simpler in vitro models that exhibit primitive forms of self-regulation based on internal feedback mechanisms. Here, we investigate one such model based on complex coacervation of the enzyme catalase with an oppositely charged polyelectrolyte DEAE-dextran to form pH-responsive catalyti… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
