Designing “Library Smartbot” to Support Information Services in Academic Library

Abstract: This research aims to develop a smartbot prototype that can be used by libraries to help librarians improve their information service quality. This study will contribute to academic libraries, especially supporting information and reference services by providing quick responses and accurate answers. Librarians will benefit from this prototype and users will also receive fast and accurate information from the library. The method used in this study consists of two phases: Plan and Design. “…Robots in libraries free up librarians’ time to concentrate on other crucial information services that cater to the changing needs of the modern world. According to Harisanty et al (2020), some areas where robotic technologies have been integrated into library operations include shelving and finding library materials, security, inquiries and responding to repetitive reference and directional queries, outreach and public relation via library tours, and even information illiteracy training. Robotic devices for automatic storage and retrieval have also been helpful in the management of library space (Echedom and Okuonghae, 2021).…”

Some of the areas where robotic technologies have been applied to library operations, according to Harisanty et al (2020), include shelving and locating library materials, security, inquiries and answering of repetitive reference and directional queries, outreach and public relation (PR) via library tour and even information illiteracy instruction. Additionally, robots are useful for automated storage and retrieval systems, which have aided in the management of library space (Echedom and Okuonghae, 2021).…”
