The purpose of this research study is to describe the attitudes that constitute prosocial skills from the perspective of social responsibility in university students by assessing their sociodemographic characteristics. An instrument is applied to a non-probabilistic sample of 382 participants and an exploratory factorial analysis is conducted. An instrument for Chilean students is proposed and statistically significant differences are examined according to their sociodemographic characteristics. The results show that students have high development of attitudes linked to prosocial skills. In addition, the only differences found are in relation to gender and years of study in higher education. Future research should assess cultural background while examining the implications of the research subject's characteristics. In conclusion, universities must apply educational policies to enhance a transformative teaching that implements empathic, supportive, altruistic, and socially responsible initiatives.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to review university social responsibility (USR) using a well-known quantitative approach of bibliometric analysis. Compared to corporate social responsibility (CSR), USR is in its infancy stage, requiring further exploration of its meaning and impact toward higher education institutions (HEIs).Design/methodology/approachA total of 306 publications and 9,530 cited references were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Bibliographic coupling analysis was applied to uncover present themes, while co-word analysis was used to predict future trends.FindingsFindings suggested that themes are centralized toward the impact of USR on HEIs. USR is important for HEIs to attain excellence in today's challenging business environment.Research limitations/implicationsUSR could develop HEIs into world-renowned institutions by establishing a good reputation and engaging with the broader community, locally and internationally. USR is regarded as HEIs' new value proposition in marketing its brand within the competitive environment in higher education.Originality/valueThis study is the first that reviews USR by extracting the knowledge structure and providing visualization on the implicit themes of the subject interest.

In recent years, the sense of social responsibility among college students has garnered significant scholarly interest due to its impact on individual development and its implications for national modernization and strength. This study introduces the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) model as an innovative approach to fostering social responsibility in students at private colleges in Anhui Province. By employing a questionnaire, we assessed the current state of social responsibility cultivation among these students. Subsequently, an intervention study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the IMB model. The intervention group received a social responsibility intervention based on the IMB model, while the control group continued with traditional methods. The findings indicate that the intervention group outperformed the control group across various dimensions—information, motivation, behavioral skills, and social responsibility behaviors. Notably, the overall sense of social responsibility in the intervention group increased by 13.13% post-intervention, which is 14.87% higher than that observed in the control group. These results suggest that the IMB model is a potent strategy for enhancing social responsibility among college students.
