Design, Synthesis, and Evaluation of New Sulfone Derivatives Containing a 1,3,4-Oxadiazole Moiety as Active Antibacterial Agents

Abstract: This study aimed to synthesize some new sulfone derivatives containing a 1,3,4-oxadiazole moiety and investigate their in vitro antibacterial activities against Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo) and Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri (Xac), the pathogens of rice bacterial leaf blight and citrus canker, respectively, by performing turbidimeter tests. Antibacterial bioassay results showed that compound 6d revealed excellent bioactivities against Xoo and Xac, with the 50% effective concentration (EC50) values of … Show more

“…In this context, 1,3,4‐oxadiazole derivatives are one of the most important heterocyclic compounds that have received considerable attention over the past years. Compounds containing this nucleus have diverse pharmacological properties such as antifungal, antioxidant, antibacterial, antitubercular and anticonvulsant . Moreover, 1,3,4‐oxadiazoles are well known as efficient amide and/or ester bioisosteres which enhance the biological responses by participating in hydrogen bonding interactions with different receptors…”

“…Chemical control is one of the most important measures to prevent disease . However, long‐term use of existing traditional chemical fungicides has not only resulted in bacteria being selected for resistance, they also adversely affect the environment and plant health . It is therefore important to discover and develop novel antibacterial agents that possess a novel mechanism of action.…”

“…The turbidity method was used to test the target compounds with Xac, Xac, Rs using commercial bismerthiazol and thiodiazole copper as positive control agents . Prepare a sterile nutrient broth culture medium: 3.0 g beef extract, 5.0 g peptone, 1.0 g of yeast powder, 10.0 g of glucose and 1000 mL of secondary water, pH 7.0–7.2.…”
