Design of renewable poly(amidoamine)/hemicellulose hydrogels for heavy metal adsorption

Abstract: Renewable poly(amidoamine)/hemicellulose hydrogels were prepared from O-acetylated galactoglucomannan (AcGGM)rich biomass and shown to display a significantly high adsorption capacity for Cu 21 , Cd 21 , Pb 21, Zn 21 , Ni 21 , Co 21 , and CrO 2-4 . Two different acrylamido end-capped poly(amidoamine) oligomers (PAA) were prepared and covalently immobilized onto an in situ formed polysaccharide network via water-based free radical graft copolymerization and cross-linking. The synthetic approach was shown to be … Show more

“…Also, mechanical treatment in water can lead to extraction of material from wood. Much interest has been focused on the materials obtained in water solution after mechanical pulping, which have been shown to be rich in glucomannans and also some lignins . As described above, wood is a cross-linked structure, and direct extraction from wood without any pretreatment or breaking of covalent bonds is difficult.…”

“…Then we speculated that the decrease of AAC of F-HPIDF still came from the degradation of hemicellulose, although the specific surface area of F-HPIDF increased with the progress of fermentation. Hemicellulose was used as an adsorption material or matrix of acrylamide in previous studies [52,53].…”

“…While, as the pH value increasing, due to the proton depriving by base, the adsorption capacity significantly increased. A novel hemicellulose based hydrogels were designed by Ferrari and coworkers (Ferrari et al, 2014). The amidoamine was introduced into the backbone of the hemicellulose, through water based free radical graft copolymerization and cross-linking.…”
