Design of Polymeric Corrosion Inhibitors Based on Ionic Coumarate Groups

Abstract: Efficient, environmentally friendly organic corrosion inhibitors are being sought to alleviate the financial loss caused by corrosion degradation of mild steel materials. Here, we show the synthesis and characterization of monomeric ionic coumarate corrosion inhibitors and their integration into polymeric acrylic UV coatings. For this purpose, we investigated the effect of including the coumarate corrosion inhibitors into the acrylic UV coating by three different means. The corrosion inhibitors could be added … Show more

“…[1][2][3] Such polymers are used in synthetic rubber, synthetic fibers, super-absorbent resins, pharmaceuticals, leather, textiles, building materials, water treatment, oil exploitation, coatings, and other industries. [4][5][6][7][8][9][10] However, acrylic polymers are a type of anionic polymer, which has restricted their application range. Cationic modification can give them unusual properties.…”

“…[29,30] Recently, ionic coumarate corrosion inhibitors have been incorporated into acrylic UV coatings showing promising results in terms of corrosion inhibition. [31][32][33] An interesting methodology for the industrial application of those carboxylate inhibitors would be to incorporate them into waterborne latexes. Conversely, conventional latexes are electrostatically stabilized by anionic surfactants and hence increasing ionic strength might destabilize the dispersion (coagulation).…”
