Design of HTS Transmission Cable With Cu Stabilizer

Abstract: More than three HTS cable development and installation projects are proceeded over the world. A 22.9 kV/50 MVA class HTS cable system has been developed in Korea during last 3 years. And the HTS cable system for commercialization will be developed and installed on the real or test power grid within 2 years. Every HTS cable system has to satisfy the fault-current specifications of the power grid in order to protect the cable itself from the fault current. HTS cable composed of HTS tapes has some capacity of end… Show more

“…If the chemical reaction were dominant in terms of yielding metal oxide, rapid growth would doubtlessly cause disorder in the structure formed, because such rapid growth would never permit the repairing system discussed above. With this scheme, a perfectly oriented metal oxide layer would be obtainable on even a 500 m long metal tape with high reproducibility [5,14]. As discussed above, by choosing the process we provide the minimum energy to grow only a cube-on-cube structure with high reproducibility.…”

“…In Korea, the development of HTS power cables has mainly been being carried out by KERI and LS Cable Co. under the DAPAS program. The goal of the first phase was to develop a three‐phase 50 MVA/22.9 kV class 30 m length HTS power cable, 1 but in the second phase, KERI and LS Cable Co. developed and established a 100 m length HTS power cable 2–5 with a capacity of 50 MVA/22.9 kV in the Gochang power system test center administrated by Korea Electric Power Corporation. Figure 1 shows the picture of the one‐side terminal part of the 100 m length HTS power cable.…”

“…Consequently, the superconducting cable itself could limit the fault current to a certain band to realize a stable fault-current-limiting-type Manuscript superconducting cable. [2]- [5] In this study, three different superconducting thin-film wires with a critical temperature of 90 K (a wire with a copper stabilization layer [6], [7], another with a stainless steel stabilization layer, and a third without a stabilization layer) were connected parallel to one another with stranded copper wires (replacing the cable former) as the experimental samples. The fault current amplitude was set at 45 V rms /1,572 A peak , considering the voltage grades of the superconducting wires and the parallel connections of the stranded copper wires and the superconducting wires.…”
