Design of high-directivity end-fire antenna array

Abstract: A new method of designing an end-fire plate antenna array is presented in this paper. To improve directivity and gain, the four elements array of plate surface wave antenna located along axis direction was made. From the simulations and practical measurement, the conclusion can be made that this structure is very advance to develop high-directivity end-fire antenna array.

“…DESIGN SINGLE-FEED and MULTI-FEED PLATE END-FIRE ANTENNA Traditional surface wave antenna is middle gain antenna and gain increases with the number of directors. We use Hansen -Woodyard condition to optimize the length of directors and obtain high gain end-fire antenna [2]. A 20 elements short single-feed structure is proposed (Fig.5).…”

“…To avoid the effect of mutual coupling in making up end-fire antenna array, increasing the distance between lateral elements is the common method [1,2] . However, in the H-plane far field pattern, high side lobes will appear near the site of grating lobes in the array factor.…”

“…In [3], end-fire array was used as a surface wave radar antenna, in which the sea surface was taken as the ground plane, and the end-fire antennas were arranged side by side as the elements. [4] discussed the idea of building an end-fire array along end-fire direction, the preliminary experiment, and simulation results, but it did not explore the theory for the results. The work in this paper is partly based on [4], and some further discussion and simulations were presented.…”
