Design of Frequency Reconfigurable Multiband Meander Antenna Using Varactor Diode for Wireless Communication

Abstract: Abstract-A compact multiband frequency reconfigurable meander antenna proposed for wireless communication systems is designed and described in this paper. A folded structure has been chosen due its good tradeoff between size, bandwidth and efficiency. The reference antenna is based on a meander patch structure radiating at F1=1, F2=1.94, F3=2.6GHz and optimized to be integrated in the Printed Circuit Board (PCB). In order to sweep the resonance frequencies, a chip capacitor was inserted between the meander pat… Show more

“…To demonstrate the validity of the proposed antenna, a comparison with another existing model in the literature is presented in Table 5. The summarized data reveal that the proposed antenna offers better reconfigurable operating frequency and wide bandwidth compared to the other antennas designed in [24], [25]. It can also be observed from Table 5, the proposed antenna has the better gain than the work reported in [24]- [27], moreover, the size of our antenna is very small which is an advantage in the design and conception of motherboards.…”

“…Tunable varactor diodes are usually used to design electrically frequency reconfigurable antenna [12]. In the literature [13], [14], various microstrip reconfigurable antennas using varactor diodes have been reported. The reference antenna (RA) subject of this investigation has been studied and well reported in [15].…”

“…At present, the meander delay systems (MDSs) are widely used in electronic devices and equipment for signal synchronization [1,2] and filtering [3]. Moreover, meander delay systems are frequently applied as specific meander structures for small-sized antennas [4,5], resonators [6], and other devices [7].…”
