Frequency reconfigurable circular microstrip patch antenna with slots for cognitive radio

Abstract: In this paper, a novel multi-frequency microstrip antenna with complementary ring slot resonator (CRSR) structure that satisfies Bluetooth, worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX), and wireless local area network (WLAN) applications is proposed. The conventional antenna consists of a circular microstrip patch at a resonance frequency band of 2.5 GHz. By loading two CRSR at the radiating element, three operating frequency bands 2.5 GHz, 3.6 GHz, and 5.2 GHz are achieved. The operational bands co… Show more

“…This form of reconfiguration mechanism is extensively used in RF communication systems such as multiband mobile devices [8]. These frequency reconfiguration antennas allow for the continuous modification of one or more resonant frequencies, and frequency reconfiguration is frequently accomplished physically or electrically by changing the antenna size with switches [97], [98]. A dual-band reconfigurable antenna was designed and fabricated in [99].…”

“…In this case, the inserted notching structure allows the antenna to reject the 5G-6 GHz band, thus mitigating the interference of this sub-band with the UWB region. The dimensions of the notching slot are calculated using the following equation [26], while the slot's location is optimized through a parametric study carried out by simulations.…”

“…Infact, slots/slits have been used in the radiating patch and ground plane, to obtain multiband operations [1]- [10]. Reconfigurable antenna is one of the technique used by many researchers to design multiband antennas [11]. Metamaterials are the promising new candidates for designing multiband antennas [12]- [19].…”
