Design of compact low‐pass filter with large reject band using open circuit stubs and two‐cascaded DGS quasitriangular resonators

Abstract: This article investigates a quasitriangular of defected ground structure (DGS) for low‐pass filters (LPFs) application. An equivalent RLC circuit model is presented and its corresponding parameters are as well extracted using the parametric relationships. The LPFs using the proposed DGS pattern combined with open stubs are designed and fabricated. The proposed LPF presents the advantages of small size, low insertion loss and ultrawide stopband with 20 dB attenuation from 4 GHz to >20 GHz. The simulated results… Show more

“…Microstrip line is one of the most commonly used microwave and millimetre wave transmission lines. Microstrip line crossovers are unavoidable in some applications, such as feeding networks of switched beam antennas [1], multichannel systems [2], and so forth. The air-bridge is the simplest and most compact crossover structure.…”

“…The parallel capacitance and the inductance of the equivalent DGS-circuit can be derived by substituting with the values of f 0 5 3.09 GHz and f c 5 2.1 GHz in (1) and (2). The computed values of parameters L and C are respectively 1.74 nH and 0.71 pF.…”

“…The filter is designed and simulated using commercially available electromagnetic simulators. The cutoff‐ and first‐stop frequencies have not changed from their previous positions, but the advantage is that the new LPF is 30% more compact than the conventional one , as shown in Figures and . The simulation results show that the designed filter has a corner frequency of 3 GHz and smaller losses in the pass band.…”
