Design of an Optimum Battery Electric Fishing Vessel for Natuna Sea

Abstract: ⎯ Natuna Sea is one of the places in Indonesia, which has a high potency of fish up to one million ton per year. Fisherman in Indonesia relies too much on the fossil fuel, which has limited resources. The author wants to redesign the fishing vessel into the battery electric fishing vessel that can be recharge to reduce the use of fossil fuel and also to increasing the revenue of the fisherman. To minimize the capacity of the battery, the fishing activities concept is also change into centralized fishing activi… Show more

“…In general, the design of a hybrid boat focuses on three key areas: (1) sails that create the most thrust; (2) a system that generates electricity from solar cells to power the ship; and (3) the shape of the ship's hull for minimal resistance and excellent mobility [15]. Another study mentions that the ideal battery for 10 GT electric fishing boats in the Natuna Sea is 6,000 Ah, with a range of around 14 NM, a speed of approximately 7 knots, and fishing activities of approximately 6.5 hours [16].…”

“…Possible methods to decrease ship energy consumption in the electrical power system including the engagement of renewable energy resources [4]- [7], optimal power management system [8], [9], and efficient distribution systems [10], [11]. In Indonesia, most of vessels are still using diesel engines in their propulsion system and conventional radial AC distribution systems in their electrical grid [12]. Therefore, one of the Int J Appl Power Eng ISSN: 2252-8792  Short-circuit current analysis of DC distribution system in a ship with … (Adi Kurniawan) 363 most reasonable choices as the first step to decrease energy consumption for ships operated in Indonesia is to improve the efficiency of power distribution system.…”
