Design of a current converter for the study of the UV emission in DBD excilamps

Abstract: OATAO is an open access repository that collects the work of Toulouse researchers and makes it freely available over the web where possible. Abstract-This paper presents the design of a current converter to supply a DBD exciplex lamp. The structure is implemented, based on a Boost converter. An analysis in the state plane is used, to determine the stability of the converter and the values of current and voltage during the discharge phase. An electrical model of the lamp is used to simulate the non measurable v… Show more

“…As seen in the power formulas, for both topologies, stability is assured only if V in is smaller than the V th voltage (seen in the primary), thus limiting the amount of power that can be supplied and the UV power to be obtained [25], [26].…”

“…The duration of the sequences (B) and (D) t discharge is defined by the values of C diel , L, n (step-up ratio of the transformer), and I L0 [24]; they naturally finish when the i L current matches a zero value (spontaneous turn-off of the thyristors-like switches, as will be detailed in next section-see Section III-C1).…”

“…It is desired to avoid uncontrollable oscillations of the current between the buck switching instants A criteria to reduce the effects of the sinusoidal oscillation, is to have a resonant frequency f osc such that i Lb does not start to decrease due to the oscillation before the next switching instant, this is done with an oscillation period T osc greater or equal to 2T L . This condition is achieved when (13) and (14) are respected.…”

“…Based on a DBD excimer lamp with the equivalent electric model in Fig.4, and the experiments by [13], it has been determined the lamp power to be supplied and the lamp current frequency. Because the lamp voltage achieves approximately 6kV under the experimental conditions [13], a step-up transformer has been implemented to connect the inverter to the lamp.…”
