Design and study of ADC/BCN/metal oxide gas-generating agents

Abstract: Characterized with low burning temperature and low concentration of toxic gases, the azodicarbonamide (ADC), basic cupric nitrate (BCN) and 10 % metal oxide (CuO, ZnO, MnO 2 , Fe 2 O 3 ) gas-generating agents have been investigated. The thermal analysis results show that the thermal decomposition process of ADC/ BCN/metal oxide is similar to that of ADC/BCN, and the addition of metal oxides makes the initial decomposition temperature decrease. Among the ADC/BCN/metal oxide mixtures that were examined, ADC/BCN/… Show more

“…Other parameters such as the cure content, final torque ( M f ), and torque difference (Δ M = M f − M i ) also decreased from 9.2 × 10 −5 (mol/cm 3 ), 6.52 and 5.1 N.m for F3 to 8.5 × 10 −5 (mol/cm 3 ), 5.53 and 4.5 N.m for F12, respectively for the same conditions. All of these observations can be related to the fact that ZnO can simultaneously act as an activator for ADC decomposition and rubber curing, so increasing the ADC content reduced the activation effect of ZnO on rubber curing, and thereby decreased the curing content.…”

“…TG and DSC curves for ADC ligand are presented in Figure . Pure ADC has three peaks corresponding to three mass loss steps in the TG curve . There is a sharp endothermic peak (222 °C) in the DSC curve, with a mass loss of about 75 % in the TG curve.…”

“…Azodicarbonamide (ADC) is a good candidate for clean solid gas‐generating agents due to its safety and easy‐to‐handle . The strong hydrogen bonding in ADC can cause a cluster formation in gas, solution or solid state for many chemical systems .…”
