Design and Simulation on Compressor Metal Matrix Composite by Investment Casting

Abstract: Compressor is a part of turbocharger approaches that utilize the exhaust gas of an automobile to drive the compression device. The purpose of turbocharging is to increase the intake pressure and the amount of air into the combustion chamber to improve the efficiency of the engine. Compressor impeller determines the service life of the turbocharger. This paper proposes the new methodology of producing the compressor impeller using Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) material by investment casting. In general, this stu… Show more

“…Dispersion of graphite particles in aluminum-silicon alloy provides the alloy with antifriction properties, good wear properties such as wear rate, P-V limits, seizure resistance, high damping characteristics, and good machinability. As a result, most developmental activities on this class of composites have focused more on their microstructure and tribological characteristics than on mechanical properties (Vijayaram, 2006;Sayuti et al, 2011a,b,c,d,e;Taufik et al, 2011d).…”

“…The brake discs are in contact with two pad discs on their sides that apply friction to move the device to slow it down and bring it to a stop. It is very important that brake systems quickly dissipate the heat that is generated by the friction of the braking action to ensure that the stopping force is consistent [5].The simulations on cast metal matrix composites were presented in the casting technology [6] and application on compressor in automotive parts [7]. Motorcycle braking is accomplished by the friction produced when brake linings are forced against a rotating disc and drum.…”
