Design and Fabrication of a Printed Tri-Band Antenna for 5G Applications Operating across Ka-, and V-Band Spectrums

Abstract: In this paper, an umbrella-shaped patch antenna for future millimeter-wave applications for the 5G frequency band is presented. The proposed antenna resonates at multiple frequency bands, i.e., 28 GHz, 38 GHz, and 55 GHz (V-band) that have been globally allocated for 5G communications systems. The proposed antenna is designed using Rogers RT/duroid 5870, with a relative permittivity, loss tangent and thickness of 2.33 mm, 0.0012 mm and 0.79 mm, respectively. The antenna has an overall size of 8 mm × 8 mm which… Show more

“…It is calculated by averaging across a volume of either 1 g or 10 g. In Europe, the SAR limit is 2 W/kg for 10 g of tissue, whereas the United States has a limit of 1.6 W/kg for 1 g of tissue. Equation (1) can be utilized to assess the SAR values [ 23 ]. where E represents electric field intensity (V/m), is electrical conductivity (S/m), and stands for mass density (kg/m 3 ), respectively.…”

“…Moreover, when one wishes to simulate complex structures (from the point of view of geometry), it is necessary to make a discretization (differential methods) or to define a set of test functions (integral methods) that can limit the use of these test functions. Nevertheless, to support the exponential increase in the number of users, the next generation of communication systems will need to use high data rates and be low cost and efficient, as shown in [8][9][10][11][12]. The THz regime is one of the continuing challenges facing materials technology and the development of electronic and photonic devices [13][14][15][16].…”

“…The second patch is then exited by the first patch to resonate at the upper band (60 GHz). A tri-band umbrella-shaped antenna for 5G mm-Wave applications is illustrated in reference [19]. The radiator resonated at 28 GHz, 38 GHz, and 55 GHz with gains of 6.6 dB, 7 dB, and 7.35 dB respectively.…”
