Design and Evaluation of a New Natural Multi-Layered Biopolymeric Adsorbent System-Based Chitosan/Cellulosic Nonwoven Material for the Biosorption of Industrial Textile Effluents

Abstract: The adsorption phenomenon using low-cost adsorbents that are abundant in nature is of great interest when the adsorbed capacity is significant. A newly designed natural polyelectrolyte multi-layered (PEM) biopolymeric system-based chitosan/modified chitosan polymer and functionalized cellulosic nonwoven material was prepared and used as an effective adsorbent for Reactive Red 198 (RR198) dye solutions. The bio-sorbent was characterized by FTIR, SEM, and thermal (TGA/DTA) analysis. The swelling behavior was als… Show more

“…Therefore, a set of methods could be used in parallel, such as direct (TEM, SEM) and indirect (probe adsorption, SAXS, NMR cryoporometry, DSC thermoporometry, etc.) methods [9,28,31,[54][55][56][64][65][66][74][75][76][77][78][79][80][81][82][83][84][85][86][87]111,[114][115][116][117][118][119][120][121][122][123][124][125][126][127][128][129][130]. More accurate results can be obtained if several methods are used in parallel (e.g., SAXS and adsorption).…”

“…The increasing interest related to the design of this kind of polymers is explained by their use in a wide range of biomedical applications as diverse as tissue engineering, drug delivery, therapeutics, diagnostics, and so on [22][23][24][25][26]. Over the last decade, the methods for the synthesis of polymers, processing, and characterization have been developing rapidly, which brings both challenges and opportunities to design novel polymeric bio-materials [27][28][29][30][31].…”
