Patient-centric medical environment is an important trend recently. The environment can save time and money for patients to go to hospital, improve patients' life, and reduce the abuse cost for medical treatment. In this paper, a health care system based on mobile phone for patient-centric medical environment is proposed. The system provides the remote monitoring and emergency alarm for both patients and doctors. Also, the extended mobility of system allows patients to engage some outdoor activities. System design, circuit design, WiFi location algorithm development, analysis, system verification and prototype development are provided in this paper.
The system transfers by Bluetooth to the mobile phone the recorded ECG and EEG signals from the patients' sensors. The mobile phone then by 3G/GPRS/WiFi services transfers the recorded data along with location information (by GPS or WiFi location) back to the medical cloud. The doctors retrieve the patients' health care information and display on their tablets or mobile phones. When the fatal conditions occur, the mobile phone can send an SMS directly to doctors' mobile to alarm the doctors. We adopt commercial discrete components to build the demo prototype, and the final prototype provides the whole functions mentioned for 5-hour continuing operation and WiFi location correct rate of 76%.
