This study investigated students’ attitudes towards the use of outdoor open space in universities, identifying the most comfortable conditions and favourable factors, including urban layout, physical features, and outdoor thermal conditions, as well as the students’ needs and behaviour. A quasi-experiment was used to assess the quality of the outdoor spaces. Three outdoor open spaces on the university’s campus were used for the case study. A spatial analysis employing space syntax was used to determine the integration, agent, and connection factors. For the microclimate conditions, simulations were conducted. The students’ actions were recorded, and a questionnaire concerning their preferences was disseminated. According to the respondents, the key advantages of campus open spaces are that they provide places in which to socialise and rest and to pass by. The data revealed a correlation between microclimate conditions and the use of outdoor spaces. However, the students use outdoor venues even in unfavourable microclimates. The visual factor and spatial configuration of the site have a significant impact on the use of open spaces; hence, visibility is an important feature in campus layouts. This study established a baseline of data to integrate social and contextual factors for the creation of meaningful spaces in universities.

Open spaces on university campuses create an active academic environment and a vibrant, active social life. This paper aims to answer the question, "Under which conditions does a university campus change from subduing students' social life to enhancing it?" By studying the Taibah University (TU) campus in Madinah, Saudi Arabia, this research provides an initial step to enhance walkability and pedestrian movement for users. The study consists of main parts: theoretical background and literature review to reach design guidelines, site analysis and survey followed by discussion of results, and a final urban proposal for humanizing the campus along with the recommendation to use the campus as a catalyst to humanise Madinah. Analysing TU will be completed through a site visit and picture documentation. The research has also engaged the students' opinions through survey assessment of the campus. The survey study was done in fall 2019 through students' participation in the graduation project in the Architecture Engineering Department at Taibah University to study the urban context of the campus and propose new uses for buildings. The finding of this paper will propose important steps to increase campus walkability; social sustainability and stress on the main future studies to strengthen the research results.

Since the beginning of the new century, our country has made more efforts and attached increasing importance to colleges and universities. The number and scale of various large-scale equipment in the teaching process of colleges and universities are also growing rapidly and steadily. However, the management of these large-scale machinery and equipment is still dominated by traditional manual management mode, and there are practical problems existing in the use and management system such as low use efficiency, unreasonable purchase and obvious management loopholes. Based on these conditions, this paper takes the management system of largescale machinery and equipment as the research direction, and proposes financial index, internal process index, scientific research development index and interest-related index to construct an index system structure, then it uses a combined algorithm which integrated the improved Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) with the entropy weight method to calculate the impact factors of each index, at last, this paper puts forward specific countermeasures and suggestions according to the size of the impact factors, in the hopes of providing support for the use and management of equipment in the teaching process of colleges and universities.
