Design and characterization of novel poly(vinyl chloride) nanocomposite films with zinc oxide immobilized with biocompatible citric acid

Abstract: Herein, first ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) were modified with citric acid (CA) to prevent agglomeration and achieve good dispersion of NPs in poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) matrix along with controlling the size. Different concentrations of modified ZnO-CA NPs were used to fabricate PVC/ZnO-CA nanocomposite films, and the obtained materials were characterized by several techniques such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron m… Show more

“…26,27 This modier has been used for ZnO NPs and the capped ZnO/CA NPs were employed to study PVC NCs futures. 28 In the present study, rst PET was recycled by dissolution/ precipitation method that offers the ideal manner for PET recycling. Then, nontoxic, biocompatible, and biodegradable CA was graed on the safe ZnO NPs surface.…”

“…The presence of OAH on the surface of ZnO NPs is revealed by broad band at 3500 cm 21 and a broad peak at 432 cm 21 depicture the ZnAO bond stretching [ Figure 1(a)]. 22,25 There are some characteristic absorption bands related to the imide heterocyclic ring in the spectrum of DA [ Figure 1 for hydroxyl end groups and 3430 cm 21 related to CAO overton. 28 There are two peaks at 3055 and 2965 cm 21 due to CAH bond asymmetric stretching (methylene groups).…”

“…20 Binding of organic coupling agents onto the surface of NPs, acts as a bridge between NPs and organic matrix. Currently, various coupling agents such as H550, 21 citric acid, 22 and stearic acid 23 have been examined on the surface of ZnO NPs and compared to the NC filled with unmodified ZnO 23 ; results showed significant improvement in the NCs properties. In other earlier reports, the effect of incorporation of DAs based on amino acids into the different types of polymeric structure was examined and results displayed that the synthetic materials from these DAs were biocompatible, biodegradable, and nontoxic.…”

“…Figure 3a indicates that the heater is mechanically robust yet bendable and wearable due to the flexible nature of PVC. In addition, as PVC is bio-compatible and has no adverse effects on human skin and the immune systems 59,60 , we have demonstrated the feasibility of using GoPo for wearable thermal therapy by directly affixing the heater to a human wrist and observing its operation under various physical disturbances such as bending and twisting. Figure 3b shows the temperature distribution of the heater under three different operating conditions including bent outward, neutral and bent upward.…”
