The potential use of recycled PET bottle in nanocomposites manufacturing with modified ZnO nanoparticles capped with citric acid: preparation, thermal, and morphological characterization

Abstract: We devised a fast and facile potential practical application by incorporating the guest ZnO nanoparticles (NPs) into poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) as a host polymer that recycled by dissolution/reprecipitation method.

“…Thiamine, known as vitamin B 1 (VB 1 ), is a water‐soluble vitamin and plays an essential role in different foods . The reaction for modification of the NPs is similar to our previous studies . The functional groups present in thiamine structure make it a proper substance for surface modification.…”

“…[13,14] The reaction for modification of the NPs is similar to our previous studies. [15,16] The functional groups present in thiamine structure make it a proper substance for surface modification. This vitamin makes more active sites on the NPs surfaces.…”

“…The ability of these modifiers to chelate with metal oxides makes them a good choice for surface modification. [23][24][25][26][27][28] The focus of this study is the preparation of green and environmental friendly NCs. Therefore, PVP as a biocompatible polymer matrix, biosafe CA and VC as modifier agents instead of non-safe agents as well as ZrO 2 NPs as biocompatible nanofillers were chosen for the preparation of NCs.…”

“…Compared with conventional mixing, ultrasonic is faster, safe, and time-saving method with higher yields. 27 The NCs were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis were used to determine the morphology of the obtained modified ZrO 2 and NCs.…”
