Solar Energy is a kind of green and renewable energy, and solar cells can be used to convert solar energy to electricity. Due to the requirements of carbon reduction and energy saving as well as the policy of Government incentive, the installation of solar energy system is becoming more and more popular. However, the available ground surface is limited, and the installation site of solar energy is gradually extended to building roofs, fish bonds and other special places. Because the traditional solar cells tend to monotonous dark blue or reddish brown color, the aspiration for colored solar cells is appeared in recent years to cope with the aesthetic requirement for solar facilities in the living environment. This paper discusses the principle and applications of colored solar cells, including the types of colored products, and the methods of making color change. In addition, the theory of chromatic has been used to explain the guidelines of color selection and coordination of solar cells in various situations and applications.

A method of modified innovative product design and development has been developed and used for a design work of innovative and multifunctional jackets with optoelectronic technologies in this study. This method has five working steps, including opportunity definition, opportunity exploration, opportunity confirmation, opportunity realization and achievement valuation. At first, the method of personas was used to develop key factors of design themes for an innovative jacket, and then the Delphi method was utilized to identify these factors by a group of experts. This paper described the design method, and illustrated the process to find out and decide design criteria for developing a jacket with optoelectronic effect.

The modified innovative product design and development method has been developed and used for a design work of innovative and multifunctional jackets with optoelectronic technologies in a previous study. There were six items of key design themes were found out, including practicality, aesthetics, portability, washability, multifunction and composability. In this study, a design strategy and solution was proposed and a multifunctional jacket with optoelectronic function was completed. Finally, a survey with questionnaire was executed and analyzed for evaluation and verification of the design achievement. According to the consequence of data analysis, the performances of a new innovative and multifunctional jacket of this study are better than those of a traditional jacket.
