Design and Application of Automated Algorithms for Diagnosis and Treatment Optimization in Neurodegenerative Diseases

Abstract: Neurodegenerative diseases represent a growing healthcare problem, mainly related to an aging population worldwide and thus their increasing prevalence. In particular, Alzheimer's disease (AD) and Parkinson's disease (PD) are leading neurodegenerative diseases. To aid their diagnosis and optimize treatment, we have developed a classification algorithm for AD to manipulate magnetic resonance images (MRI) stored in a large database of patients, containing 1,200 images. The algorithm can predict whether a patient… Show more

“…El objetivo principal es reducir el tiempo de cicatrización. En otras disciplinas médicas se ha demostrado que adoptando este tipo de algoritmos y de protocolos se mejora la eficiencia (24). También se busca mejorar el proceso diagnóstico, aumentar las cifras de cicatrización efectiva, mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes, reducir las recidivas y reducir el consumo de recursos y el gasto sanitario.…”

“…Recent advancements in functional neuroimaging, including Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), have led to reliable biomarkers for detecting the risky stages of AD (Albert et al 2011). Due to the high caregiving costs and the progressive nature of AD (Estella et al 2022), it would be highly beneficial to develop state-of-the-art frameworks for early diagnosis and efficient recognition of brain dysfunction (Platero 2022).…”
