Introduction: Obesity is a pathology with multifactorial etiology. A high percentage of body fat favors the development of numerous comorbidities such as chronic kidney disease (CKD). This work aims to evaluate the percentage of fat in healthy adults with changes in kidney function. Methods: the sample consisted of participants of both sexes, aged 18 years or over. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire with sociodemographic questions and lifestyle habits, and measurement of anthropometric measurements and blood pressure. For statistical analysis, SPSS software version 19.0 was used. Results: The sample consisted of 244 participants, 76.2% (n=186) were female and 23.8% (n=58) were male. The average age was 46.14 ± 15.19 years. 56.6% (n=138) are healthy adults and 43.4% (n=106) have changes in renal function. The variables weight, WC and WC presented higher mean values in the renal group in relation to the group of healthy adults, and the variables age, BMI, WHtR, Cpes, SBP and DBP presented a higher median value. Finally, there was a high prevalence of altered BF% in the renal group in relation to the control (healthy group). Conclusion: based on the results obtained, the importance of monitoring the nutritional status of patients with CKD is confirmed, in order to maintain an adequate nutritional status, control metabolic changes and control the progression of kidney damage, providing a better quality of life for these patients. population.

Leisure-time physical activity seems relevant to prevent the development of chronic diseases and obesity. However, not much is known about the economic burden of these healthy behaviors, mainly in longitudinal designs. This study aimed to analyze the impact of walking and cycling on leisure-time on adiposity and healthcare costs among adults. This longitudinal study was conducted at a medium-size Brazilian city and included 198 participants with no missing data attended in the Brazilian Unified National Health System. Cycling and walking were assessed by a questionnaire with a face-to-face interview at four time-points (baseline, 6-month, 12-month, and 18-month). Healthcare costs were assessed using medical records. Adiposity markers included waist circumference and body fatness. Over the follow-up period, participants who were more engaged in cycling presented lower body fatness (p-value = 0.028) and healthcare costs (p-value = 0.038). However, in the multivariate model, the impact of cycling on costs was not significant (p-value = 0.507) due to the impact of number of chronic diseases (p-value = 0.001). Cycling on leisure-time is inversely related to adiposity in adults, whereas its role on preventing chronic diseases seems the main pathway linking it to cost mitigation.

Transtornos mentais como a depressão, a ansiedade e a distimia são enfermidades que afetam gravemente a população mundial e são uma das principais causas de incapacidade no trabalho tanto no Brasil quanto em diversos outros países. Estima-se que até 36 milhões de pessoas sofram de depressão no país e até 350 milhões ao redor do mundo. Trata-se de um problema econômico, social e humano, pois provoca diminuição do bem-estar dos indivíduos e de toda a sociedade, ao reduzir a renda e a riqueza, a felicidade e as oportunidades reais das pessoas de fazer e ser o que valorizaram. É nesse contexto que a Economia possibilita ferramentas para análise de políticas públicas, neste caso, aquelas relacionadas à saúde mental. Para tanto, o procedimento metodológico utilizado foi uma revisão de natureza teórica sobre os diferentes métodos que podem ser empregados para a avaliação da saúde mental no Brasil e no mundo. Foram descritos três referenciais teóricos: a Economia Tradicional, a Economia da Felicidade e a Abordagem das Capacitações. Os resultados apontam que cada uma dessas três abordagens econômicas permite entender, de um ângulo diferente, os problemas relacionados às doenças mentais, enriquecendo, assim, as possibilidades de promoção de políticas públicas. Entretanto, ainda são poucos os estudos sobre o tema em Economia da Felicidade e na Abordagem das Capacitações. No Brasil, tais estudos concernentes à saúde mental são exíguos, independentemente da metodologia utilizada.
