With high protein content, the cowpea is one of the most widely consumed legumes in northeastern Brazil. This study was aimed to evaluate the rhizobia inoculation effect on nitrogen accumulation and nodulation in cowpea subjected to water availability. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, in a completely randomized design, with six water availabilities (40%, 60%, 80%, 100%, 120% and 140% of maximum soil water retention capacity), with four replications. Soil moisture maintenance was performed by gravimetric method. The BR3267 strain (Bradyrhizobium japonicum) recommended for cowpea grown in Brazil was used. At thirty-five days after treatments implementation, the nitrogen nutritional status was assessed through SPAD reading, shoot nitrogen concentration and total accumulation. Nodulation was assessed by nodules number and dry matter. The increased water availability provided negative effect on SPAD reading and shoots nitrogen concentration. Shoot nitrogen accumulation was favored to up to 78.8% water availability, with subsequent decline. Nodulation was favored when soil water availability was between 85% and 87%. Water availability affects nodulation and cowpea nutritional status, although negative effects are more pronounced when there is soil water excess.

The Bayesian approach in regression models has shown good results in parameter estimations, where it can increase accuracy and precision. The objective of the current study was to analyze the application of Bayesian statistics to the modeling yield for leaf dry matter (LM) and stem (SM), in kg ha-1, leaf ratio (LR), crude protein content for leaves (CPL) and stem (CPS) (%) of Brachiaria grass as a function of varying N doses (0; 100; 200 and 300 kg ha-1 yr-1). Simple and two degree polynomial linear regression models were analyzed. Information for a priori distributions was obtained from the literature. A posteriori distribution was generated using a Monte Carlo method via Markov chains. Parameters significance was assyed with HPD (Highest Posteriori Density) with a 95% interval. Model selections was performed using DIC (Deviance Information Criterion); and adjustment quality estimated with means and 95% HPD for Bayesian R2 distribution ranges. The models selected for the variables LM, SM and CPS were linear, while for LR and CPL, they were second level polynomial. The lowest doses that maximize response variables were: LM: 274 ha-1yr-1, SM: 280 ha-1yr-1, LR: 113 ha-1yr-1, CPL: 265 ha-1yr-1, CPS: 289 ha-1yr-1. The Bayesian approach allowed the inclusion of literatureverified a priori information, and the identification of evidence optimization range intervals.

The management of nitrogen (N) fertilization in pasture has great importance for yield and maintenance of Brazilian livestock. The objective of this study was to evaluate soil chemical attributes, shoot dry weight yield (SDWY) and roots dry weight yield (RDWY), nutritional status and nutritive value of Mulato II Urochloa grass that received organic biofertilizer rates as N source. The treatments were arranged in completely randomized blocks, were fertilized with six organic biofertilizer rates (0, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 m 3 ha −1) and five replicates during four harvest cycles. There was a quadratic response in the accumulated SDWY for up to a rate of 400 m 3 ha −1 and RDWY with 330 m 3 ha −1 of organic biofertilizer. The organic biofertilizer influenced the soil chemical attributes and foliar nutrient concentration. However, only the crude protein content presented a quadratic response, and neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber levels were not affected by the influence of organic biofertilizer applied to the soil.
