“…Considering the data pointed by the literature, the estimated prevalence of DCD is 5 to 15% of school-age children (5-11 years) (APA, 2002;Cairney, Hay, Mandigo, Wade, Faught, & Flouris, 2007;França, 2008;Miranda, Beltrame, & DCD prevalence in São Carlos -SP | 25 Cardoso, 2011;Silva, Contreira, Beltrame, & Sperandio, 2011 In this sense, it was necessary to calculate the sample size to detect an expected prevalence of 10% with 90% confidence and a maximum error of 5%. To ensure the validity of the study a minimum sample of 97 individuals would be required.…”
This study aimed to identify the prevalence of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) in children aged 5-14 years, enrolled in public preschools and elementary schools in São Carlos -SP. There were 130 participating families. Instruments were: Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire -Brazil (DCDQ -Brazil), Brazil criteria and a questionnaire for the characterization of children. The prevalence of DCD found was 30%, which is overestimated when compared to data found in much of the literature, justified by the use of the instrument for detection of the DCD. No significant difference was found between the presence of signs in boys and girls and there was a higher concentration of children with DCD signs on B2, C1 and C2 socioeconomic classes. The prevalence of DCD signs was higher in children over 8 years.

Abstract Introduction:Motor assessment is an important tool to verify motor development parameters, which is achieved through motor performance, considering the current level of the individual motor performance and the ability to perform motor tasks. For that, some motor batteries have been developed for the purpose of evaluation, but based on different constructs and target populations. Objective: Assess the level of congruence between the Motor Development Scale, Movement Assessment Battery for Children Second Edition and Test of Gross Motor Development Second Edition in order to examine whether there are differences between genders and if children´s performances can be compared. Patients and Methods: The study included 172 children aged between nine and 10 years, 67 boys (X=9, 51; SD=0.40 years) and 105 girls (X=9, 44; SD=0.48 years). Results: It was found that boys had a better overall performance on motor tasks when compared to girls. With the analysis of the Z score, we met homogeneity in the distribution of test scores, so the children showed the same level of performance in all batteries. Regarding the level of congruence between the three batteries, it was established that the overall score of Movement Assessment Battery for Children Second Edition was positively correlated with the total score of the Motor Development Scale (r=0.30; p<0.001) and the Test of Gross Motor Development Second Edition (r=0.22, p=0.001). Among the total scores of the Motor Development Scale and Test of Gross Motor Development Second Edition, there was no significant correlation. Conclusion: This preliminary study demonstrates that using distinctive motor dimensions or motor tasks with different natures and measures, the Movement Assessment Battery for Children Second Edition can be used, if necessary, as an alternative to the batteries' Movement Assessment Battery for Children Second Edition and Motor Development Scale.
