Description of Particle Growth by Means of a Difference Approximation

Abstract: A difference approximation for the solution of the diffusion equation is applied to the problem of the diffusion‐controlled growth of spherical precipitates. It can be shown that the method is a very good approximation for alloys up to an initial supersaturation of about 30%. Growth laws are derived on the basis of the classical diffusion equation as well as taking into consideration the gradient energy term.
