Description of Oscheius indicus n. sp. (Rhabditidae: Nematoda) from India

Abstract: A new amphimictic species Oscheius indicus n. sp. is described and illustrated with morphological and molecular data. The species is characterized by a medium-sized and slender body (female: L = 1.1 to 1.5 mm; a = 16.8 to 20.6; b = 5.7 to 7.1; c = 7.5 to 10.4; c' = 5.0 to 7.6; V = 45 to 51%), presence of four incisures each in the lateral fields with three minute warts, long rectum (2 to 3 anal body diameters), nine pairs of papillae arranged as 1+1+1/3+3 pattern, a prominent double-flapped epipytigma on vulva… Show more

“…Compared with O. chongmingensis (described as Oscheius rugaoensis by Zhang et al , 2012; Darsouei et al , 2014), they differ in the lateral field (5 vs. 1 wart) and tail length (45–100 vs. 113–155 μm). Compared with Oscheius indicus Kumar et al ., 2019, they differ in tail length (131–156 μm) and lateral field (5 vs. 3 warts). Compared with Oscheius shamimi Tahseen and Nisa, 2006; they differ in lateral field (5 vs. 2 warts), stoma length (13–18 vs. 19–23 μm) and tail length (45–100 vs. 110–132 μm).…”

“…The collected isolate of Rhabditid belonged to the Oscheius genus. There are many species in the genus of Oscheius that are morphologically very close together (Abolafia & Peña-Santiago, 2019; Kumar et al , 2019; Rana et al , 2021). Oscheius cyrus n. sp.…”

“…Otherwise with the features of the family.302 Divided into the Dolichura group and the Insectivora group(Sudhaus 2011). Species in the Dolichura group generally have a slender body, peloderan bursa, inconspicuous posterior phasmids and spicules with straight tip (no distal hook), while species in the Insectivora group generally have a wide body with 4 to 6 incisures in the lateral fields, pseudopeloderan/leptoderan bursa, more conspicuous phasmids posterior to the last genital papillae and needle-like spicules with distal hooks(Kumar et al 2019). Species identification of the genus is very challenging since morphological characters are very similar.…”
